History

Rogue Squadron was an elite Rebel Alliance X-wing starfighter squadron founded by Commander Narra, Luke Skywalker, and Wedge Antilles shortly after the Battle of Yavin out of Red Squadron. Rogue Squadron played a key role during several engagements in the Galactic Civil War, serving as the primary defense squadron of the Alliance High Command. They participated most notably at the Battle of Hoth and later at the Battle of Endor while reorganized once more as Red Squadron. Following the first death of the Emperor, the Rogues served the New Republic as the elite starfighter squadron, operating solely under (then) General Antilles.

Some members of Rogue Squadron (led by Colonel Garik "Face" Loran) split off from the Rogues, forming the sister squadron of Wraith Squadron. Despite the split, the Rogues are still considered the most proficient and skilled starfighter squadron in the galaxy, unparalleled in their piloting ability. Although the Wraiths have the edge, the Rogues are still very proficient on the ground and in intelligence situations.

Shortly after the Rogues and Wraiths were joined by High Flight Squadron and the Firestorm Special Forces Unit, Wedge Antilles handed over the leadership of the squadron to General Corran Horn, acting instead as the commanding officer of the Rogue Taskgroup, which contained all four squadrons and the Rogue's Arrow capital ship.

After the Empire managed to wrestle control of the galaxy once more, Rogue Squadron, still commanded by (the recently re-ranked) Colonel Horn, became the primary squadron of the new Task Force Renegade.(ref)
